Ditzy Media is born! My first 10 days in business
Where to begin? 10 days ago I left my job of 15 years as a Trading Standards professional – a job I really loved – and took the big step of starting Ditzy Media.
The idea of starting my own business has always been desirable, but what was unclear for some time is what I would be able to offer and what would provide me with a viable income.
The concept behind Ditzy Media was essentially pulling together my strongest interests i.e. supporting local businesses, social media, copywriting and most of all, photography.
I have been very fortunate that I have strong networks locally made up of local businesses and business support organisations. Additionally I have very supportive friends and family which is so important. This support led to what can only be described as a very thrilling launch!
The Launch
The first steps to my launch were to ensure I was ready to go live across all the social media platforms, and maximize my exposure through my existing and established twitter and facebook accounts for Ditzyladym (my photography).
I also made sure that the beginnings of my wordpress website (built by me!) were sufficient enough to go live, albeit a work in progress.
The response I got in my first 24 hours of go live online was amazing. I received a lot of support and encouragement; my followers to my new page on Facebook achieved over 100 in under 24 hours, and Twitter also saw a lot of positive activity.
That word – Networking!
Online networking is a great way of enhancing your profile and developing good relationships but of equal importance to me is face to face networking.
Networking is a word that can leave people cold as the perception can be you are out to sell! Whilst this may be a long term objective, to me networking is about relationship building in your local community for the greater good, as well as finding future custom.
So I joined the Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce and attended their business breakfast where I was delighted to be awarded star speaker!
Later in the week I attended the EBO business breakfast, did some fabulous start up training courtesy of the Let’s Do Business Group and was fortunate enough to be invited to attend Stephen Lloyd’s fundraising Gala event.
Best of all I have two customers signed up to my services and can begin the next week with “work”. I can’t wait to start supporting my new customers and bring real commercial benefits to their businesses.
It’s been a whirlwind! I am truly amazed and thankful for everyone’s support and encouragement so far. ☺
